A little paradise on a tiny island in Southern Alentejo. A magical place. Perfect to discover the joy of simplicity and relaxation. Once in a while you might feel motivated to leave your hammock for a swim in the lake or a delicious meal...
Situated in the lake formed by the dammed Chança River, which forms in the Southern Alentejo the border to Spain. This one acre islet is Portugal's last outpost.
The surrounding landscape is dominated by evergreen oak trees. Cistus and lavender cover the hills. Astonishing in spring with their abundant blossoms, they enchant for the rest of the year with the scent of their aromatic oils.
On the island itself organically cultivated gardens offer a rich supply of fruit and vegetables, delight with their flowers, and make an invitation just to pause in the shade and watch the frogs sitting on the lotus leaves...
Island life is about simplicity, awareness and gratitude. It's about living in harmony with and in Nature. And it's about finding true happiness.
The buildings are mostly huts and caravans or hybrids from both, embellished with lots of love and wood.
Overgrown by a veritable jungle of flowering climbers, in summer the place feels like an oasis. Swinging in a hammock under the pergola of passion flowers you can get a taste of Tartarugian lifestyle and luxury.

For three vegetarian meals a day we charge 20€ per person. As you wish dishes can be vegan and/or gluten free too.
As life happens outdoors mostly, during the hot months it's the lake that serves us as a huge bathtub and we've got a dry toilet in the back of the fig garden, that overlooks the old olive trees of the neighbour island.
Our solar system is sufficient to charge mobiles and laptops, allows to listen to music and to have light.
Many visitors are surprised to discover that they easily can enjoy themselves here by just doing nothing.
In fact we are used to such busy lives that sometimes we need just to distance ourselves from any activity, allowing the pleasure and gratitude for life itself, to take place. Allowing ourselves the space to observe the many different flowers, plants and animals, the sun, the stars, the water...The beauty of nature invites contemplation, and one can lose track of time just by enjoying it.

Ilha da Tartaruga è un angolo di paradiso. Ci sono così tanti modi per distrarsi, eppure qui non ne avrai bisogno perché ti sentirai come a casa, circondato dalla natura e da fantastiche persone!

Theo hat diese Insel zu einem magischen Ort gemacht. Ich habe mich von Anfang an sehr wohl und willkommen gefühlt. Theo ist ein ausgezeichneter Gastgeber und ein wunderbarer Koch. Und auch seine Familie ist so wahnsinnig herzlich, sodass man das Gefühl ein Teil davon zu sein.
Auf der Insel merkt man erst wieder richtig, wie wenig es doch braucht um glücklich zu sein. Und das verkörpert Theo. Glücklich sein, mit dem was man hat. Dankbar sein, für das was man hat. Es war auch wunderbar so weit weg von dem ganzen Trubel und der ganzen Ablenkung im Außen zu sein. Einfach in der Hägematte entspannen, im Wasser baden bzw. stand-up-paddlen und die Seele mal baumeln lassen. Vom überwältigenden Sternenhimmel ganz zu schweigen!
Ein toller Ort um zu entspannen, alle Anspannungen loszulassen und sich frei zu fühlen. Die Insel verkörpert Freiheit pur! Ich komme sehr gerne wieder. Nur eine Sache würde ich anders machen - ich würde einen längeren Aufenthalt buchen :)
Meiner Meinung nach ist ein Aufenthalt sowohl für Alleinreisende, als auch für Paare und Familien bestens geeignet.
